This unique and intensive program allows singers a unique opportunity to develop their technique and artistry. A select group of singers work with renowned baritone and celebrated teacher, Randall Scarlata, studying aspects of style and technique, interpretation, and diction. Through collaboration with other singers, strings, woodwinds and piano, we explore the world of poetry and song in depth.
All singers work on approximately 6 lieder and one chamber piece throughout the 14 day festival, exploring repertoire ranging from Bach to pieces by living composers. In addition to the masterclasses and individual coachings, every singer performs in the final concerts.
For the song component, emphasis will be placed on German Lieder. Songs in all languages and styles are encouraged, however, and repertoire will be chosen to both broaden and hone your sense of style. To give you some inspiration for repertoire, here is a list of works studied in recent AlpenKammerMusik seasons:
Beethoven: Folksongs with piano trio
Brahms: Folksongs (written in the area near Liesing)
Schumann: Frauenliebe und Leben, duets
Schubert: Various Lieder, Der Hirt auf dem Felsen
Ravel: Chansons madécasses
Poulenc: Le Bestiare
Laitman: I Never Saw Another Butterfly
Wolf: selections from Goethe Lieder, Mörike Lieder, and the Spanisches Liederbuch
